KNOWLDEGE, ATTITUDE AND INVOLVEMENT OF ADULT EDUCATION LEARNERS IN PHYSICAL AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES IN ILORIN, NIGERIA

Abstract
It is increasingly important for adult learners to participate in recreation and physical exercise. The understanding of the benefits and outcomes of adult learning towards recreation and physical activities cannot commensurate the gain and agony faced in the exercise. Decline in physical, recreational and activity results in inactive manners are strongly associated with the development of some of the most serious health problems adults are facing. The study investigated the knowledge, attitude and involvement of adult learners towards recreational and physical activities in Ilorin, Nigeria. The descriptive research method was adopted for the study. Researchers’ designed questionnaire on knowledge, attitude and level of involvement in recreational and physical activities was used to gather data for the study. Researchers’ designed instrument was used to gather data for the study. Mean and standard deviation was used to answer the formulated research questions. The findings of the study revealed that there was adequate knowledge of adult learners towards recreation and physical activities. The attitude of adult learners was positive, while their level of involvement was not encouraging. Based on these findings, it was concluded that adult learners had high level of knowledge of recreation and physical activity, positive attitude towards physical activity but their involvement was discouraging. Based on these, it was recommended among others that public health awareness and health talks on the benefits of physical activities are needed for adult learners to participate in recreation and physical activities.
